The 2012 Breeders’ Cup – It’s All Greek To Me

Breeders’ Cup weekend is here. Do I know which horse is going to win every race? Of course not. Do I know which horse is going to win any race? I hope so (but there’s no guarantees).

Our team of contributors thought it’d be nice to provide a spreadsheet to track our race selections. This is strictly for bragging rights, but hopefully a few of ‘em get a hot hand this weekend (some of these guys were caught in Sandy’s path and have been without power so we wish them especially good BC luck).

As for me, I have few strong opinions. I did write a preview of the Filly and Mare Sprint for ThoroFan, which is ironic since it’s gotta be the one Breeders’ Cup race in which I’ve never had the winner. That’s right, never. This year I chose DUST AND DIAMONDS over heavy favorite GROUPIE DOLL because of the pace scenario; not to mention GROUPIE DOLL is likely to be heavily underlaid (sorta like I was in High School).

What do I like? Well, I like MIZDIRECTION’s 20-1 odds in the Turf Sprint. TRAILBLAZER in the Turf and RON THE GREEK in the Classic, both at 6-1. As for RON, I haven’t bet him all year, but he can handle 10 furlongs and at least he didn’t over tax himself in Jockey Club Gold Cup. Workouts say he’s ready and will be a square price in a race not exactly filled with world beaters. Hell, I might even play and all Bill Mott trifecta (well, maybe just an exacta).

Regardless of the wagering, for my money the two most exciting races will be the Ladies Classic (ugh, that name) and the Mile. No strong opinions on which horse will win, I just think both races will be real shit kickers.

Best of luck everyone!
